Have you ever wondered if you could change your name in Stardew Valley? The answer is yes, and it’s very easy to do so.

Stardew Valley is a great game where you can get lost and create your own path.

However, as you advance and figure out the playstyle you want to pursue, you might want to have a name that suits you more.

To change your name in Stardew Valley, you have two options: first, to do it in-game by visiting the Wizard’s tower and accessing the basement room, and change your name for a 500g fee.

The second way is to do it manually by editing your game’s save file, which requires a bit of a technical approach, but it’s not that complicated if you follow this guide.

Don’t forget to read the full article since I’ll be sharing a bonus tip with you if wanna start your game with a huge pile of gold.

Can You Change Your Name and Gender in Stardew Valley?

Whether you made a typo while setting up your character name or just want a fresh start with a cool name that suits your personality better, or for whatever reason, you might have.

The answer is yes; you can absolutely change your name in Stardew Valley, and there are two ways to go about it, which I’ll be walking you through in this article.

Changing your name in Stardew Valley can be a fun way to personalize your character and make the game feel more immersive.

I know I had a blast changing my character’s name to “Harvest Lord” and pretending I was the ultimate ruler of Pelican Town.

Changing Your Name at the Wizard Tower

If you wish to customize your character’s name in Stardew Valley, one of the methods available is visiting the Wizard Tower.

    Wizard Tower map location

Once you have leveled up your friendship and reached four hearts with the Wizard, he will grant you access to his basement and the mysterious Shrine of Illusions.

    Shrine of Illusions

Interacting with this shrine will allow you to change your name for 500g; a small amount that is easily acquired within the game.

Enter any name of your choice–whether it be your own, a nickname, or something creative–select it, and confirm the change!

And Voila! Your character has now been updated with its brand-new name.

The process may be quick and easy, yet it offers a fresh start to rebuilding or enhancing your game persona

While allowing you, at the same time, to experience another part of Stardew Valley through its magical components in the Wizard’s Tower.

    Changing Your Name Manually

Let’s assume you don’t have the time or energy to invest in building a good friendship with the wizard, and you might wonder, How do I change my name on Stardew Valley without the wizard?

Fear not, fellow farmer! Just follow the steps below, and you’ll be done in a few minutes.

Also, before you start, it’s important to make a backup of your game save files before you even start editing anything, just in case you mess things up.

That way, you’ll have your game backed up to restore it if needed.

So, with that out of the way, let’s dive in.

For example, my name is currently “Ollie”, but I’ll change that to another. You can follow the same steps I’ll be doing.

    original name

First thing you’ll need to locate your Stardew Valley save files location. You can pressWin + R on your keyboard if you’re on a PC and input this line C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\StardewValley\Saves

The User name could be different for you, so you can also just input %appdata% and press Enter. Then navigate your way to this file location \Roaming\StardewValley\Saves

If you are on Mac, you can do the same just press,Command + Space, then input this line ~/.config/StardewValley/Saves

Once you have located your save file location, you can begin the editing.

First, you’ll need to choose what game file you want to edit; you could have one or multiple games saved. For the purpose of this guide, mine is called Wakanda_342664876.

    stardew valley save file location

After you locate the location of your save file, double-click it to access your game-safe files; you’ll find 2 files, one called SaveGameInfo, and the other has the name of your game.

You’ll need to edit both files, but you can do it once at a time so you don’t get confused.

Right-click the SaveGameInfo file and choose Open with. You can choose whatever text editor you have.

    open SaveGameInfo file with notepad

After that, the file will open, and now you have to locate the line with your name to edit it. It will be shown like this "<name>Your Name</name>". Mine was “Ollie”. Yours will be different.

    change your name

After changing your name, you can save the file and close it. You’ll have to do the same for the other file with your game name.

It’s basically the same steps: locate the line with your current name, change it to your desired new name, save it, and close it.

After doing that, you can lunch Stardew Valley, and you’ll see that the name has been changed. Mine changed from “Ollie” to “Harvest Lord”.

    name changed successfully

Remember to edit both files the same way to ensure that the name will be changed successfully.

How to Get Unlimited Money in Stardew Valley?

So want to get that bag? Huh! Well, if you choose to change your name by manually editing your saved file info, you can get a limitless amount of money while you are at it; how you ask?

Well, remember the files you edited? Now you just have to edit another small line, and you’ll get as much money as you want. It’s quite easy and simple to execute.

Just follow the steps I outlined below.

You need to find this line at the bottom of the file; it will look like this "<money>500</money>". Now you just have to change the number in between to any number you like.

change this line for unlimited money

After editing the file, you can save and close it, and when you reopen your game, you’ll see that the number of gold you put in will be added to your in-game funds.

    money added to your funds

Now you are both rich and have a cool name. What else could you ask for?

Now, you won’t ever need to spawn items. You can buy all the items and resources you want and flix on the townsfolk, and who knows, you might finally get Abigail to marry you.

Remember to edit both files with the same amount of gold you wish you generate; otherwise, it won’t work.

    Conclusion

I think spicing up your Stardew Valley experience with a personalized name makes you and your character feel even more connected.

Also, it adds a little extra something to what already is an incredibly immersive game. So go ahead – be bold and have fun!

Whether you want to stick to your real name or get creative with a silly or thematic name, you can definitely do that now.

Plus, you learned how to get unlimited money whenever you wish to. So you’re now both cool and rich.

So go ahead and give it a try! Your farming adventure awaits.
